Students and faculty in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy (SUAPP) have been noticing the improvements to the School’s landscaping and front garden that have accompanied our red, white, and blue tiger.
In loving memory of his life-long dedication to the University of Memphis and to the citizens of Tennessee, the Representative Joe Kent Memorial Garden was dedicated at a ceremony on September 17, 2011.
McCord Hall is located at 3590 Desoto Avenue on the University of Memphis campus. It is home to the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy which contains the Divisions of Public and Nonprofit Administration, City and Regional Planning, Social Work, and the department of Criminology and Criminal Justice.
SUAPP offers a wide range of graduate and undergraduate degree programs for both full-time and part-time students with faculty who are internationally recognized in their fields.
Links to the Academic Units
SUAPP’s academic programs and research centers prepare individuals to assume community leadership roles, provide assistance with issues confronting communities, and emphasize community oriented, multidisciplinary research within a global perspective.
SUAPP links existing units within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Memphis to create alliances that focus on urban and regional problems to create an interdisciplinary body of knowledge.
A large focus of the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy is the importance of placemaking. The Rep. Joe Kent Memorial Garden is a beautiful reminder of how the simple act of creating an attractive gathering place can transform an area into a desirable place to come together.
